Providing excellence for the delivery of comprehensive cancer services

St Andrew's Hospital has developed a centre of excellence for the delivery of comprehensive cancer services.

The St Andrew's Cancer Service is the most comprehensive private cancer service in South Australia, combining a long-standing tradition of caring for patients with the medical and support service expertise expected from a centre of excellence.

Oncology Services

St Andrew's Cancer Service provides extensive oncology services for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. These services are:

  • Medical
  • Radiation
  • Surgical

The service also provides access to palliative care, pain management, pathology, radiology and extensive support resources.

Medical Oncology

St Andrew's Medical Centre on East Terrace, is an easy stroll from St Andrew's main campus on South Terrace, houses the Davidson Chemo-therapy Suite of St Andrew's Cancer Services.

Patients attending the Davidson Chemotherapy Suite receive chemotherapy treatment tailored to their specific needs. Treatment can last anywhere from 15 minutes to four hours.

The suite is supervised by an oncology nurse, with support from hospital nursing staff on a rotational basis. All staff have the appropriate training and extensive experience in caring
for patients with cancer.

The Davidson Chemotherapy Suite has been designed to provide an environment of privacy and caring, to make the patient as relaxed and comfortable as possible on arrival, during treatment and on departure.

A range of information and advice is readily available. Friends and family are especially welcome, with facilities including a comfortable waiting area and the Medical Centre's gardens.

Radiation Oncology

The Adelaide Radiotherapy Centre, in the grounds of St Andrew's Hospital, provides comprehensive radiation therapy treatment services, predominantly on an out-patient basis.

Radiation therapy treatment, generally delivered on a daily basis, can range from a single treatment to a full seven-week course. Patients are treated on either of two mega-voltage linear accelerators, or a cobalt radiotherapy unit.

Each patient is cared for by friendly and highly professional staff.

Surgical Oncology

St Andrew's Hospital has surgical services
for the management of malignancy, including the following specialties:

Radiology/Medical Imaging

Dr Jones & Partners provide a comprehensive medical imaging service based at the South Terrace campus, with the complete range of procedures including x-rays, ultrasound, CT scanning, mammography, nuclear medicine and MRI.
