The St Andrew's Medical Centre, on the site of the former
East Terrace Private Hospital, is designed to enhance and strengthen
the oncology facilities and services provided by St Andrew's Hospital.
Its network of surgical, radiotherapy and medical facilities make
St Andrew's Hospital the most comprehensive provider of private
oncology services in Adelaide.

St Andrew's Medical Centre houses the Davidson Chemotherapy Suite
of St Andrew's Hospital, together with consulting rooms for medical
specialists.
The Medical Centre, a distinctive two storey bluestone building,
is just around the corner from the Hospital, between Gilles and
Halifax Streets at 252 East Terrace.
The Medical Centre entrance is on the northern side of the building.
Please see the receptionist on your arrival to receive specific
directions.
DAVIDSON CHEMOTHERAPY SUITE
Specialist Care and Facilities
Patients attending the Davidson Chemotherapy Suite receive chemotherapy
treatment, which has been prescribed by a specialist medical oncologist.
The duration of treatment varies from patient to patient, and can
be anywhere from fifteen minutes to four hours.
The suite is supervised by an oncology nurse, with support from
hospital nursing staff on a rotational basis. All have the appropriate
training and extensive experience in caring for patients with cancer.
The Davidson Chemotherapy Suite has been designed to accommodate
a maximum of seven patients, and provides an environment of privacy
and caring to make the patient as relaxed and comfortable as possible
on arrival, during treatment, and on departure.
There is also special effort to make carers accompanying patients
feel welcome. There is a comfortable waiting area with tea and coffee
facilities, or you may choose to sit in the gardens of the Medical
Centre.
Patient Access
Patient access is on the northern side of the building. Patients
may be driven directly to the door if necessary, before parking
in East Terrace.

An Historic Link with St Andrew's
The building that now houses St Andrew's Medical Centre was built
as a residence at the turn of this century.
Later, it became a general hospital, run by Mrs Maher.
In 1966 the Matron of St Andrew's Hospital, Matron Lochiel Cameron,
retired from her position when she purchased the lease to manage
the East Terrace Private Hospital.
Matron Cameron made a great success of the Hospital, extending
the range of facilities to include an operating theatre. She retired
in 1973.
In 1992 the freehold was sold to the Ramsay group who established
a 46-bed psychiatric hospital, and later bought an adjoining residence.
In more recent years, this building was used as a day therapy centre
for child and adolescent psychiatric patients.
In order to extend its oncology facilities and services, St Andrew's
Hospital purchased the East Terrace site in December 1996 to house
the Davidson Chemotherapy Suite.
