Flipping for Pancake Day
March 04, 2025
Here are some of our newest volunteers supporting our wonderful Chaplain on Pancake Day—raising funds for UnitingCare South Australia while sharing delicious pancakes with teams across St Andrew’s Hospital.
Pancake Day is UnitingCare South Australia’s major fundraising event, held each year on Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday was the last day to use up flour, eggs, and dairy before the start of Lent—a time of reflection and abstinence in the 40 days leading up to Easter. The European custom of making pancakes on this day became a delicious way to use up these ‘luxury’ ingredients. Thousands of Australians take part in Pancake Day, flipping and eating pancakes to support people in need. Hundreds of schools, churches, businesses, and community organisations join in the fun, with all proceeds going directly to local UnitingCare organisations. These funds provide vital support to South Australians experiencing homelessness, disability, family crises, and other challenges.
At St Andrew’s, we’re more than just a hospital - we’re a community. We work hard, but we also make time to connect, share, and support one another. A big thank you to our volunteers for helping to bring people together over good food and a great cause! 🥞💙
