SALA Exhibition: Heart Place
August 01, 2025

‘Heart Place’
A South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival Exhibition
In response to the aims of the Wellbeing Centre, artists Joanna Poulson and Sally Parnis have installed their work in a way that speaks of home, comfort, and connection.
Both Joanna and Sally are painters with a bold love of colour, expressed through traditional oil painting as well as contemporary digital drawing, painting, and printing tools.
Their motifs range from the voluptuous flowers of Joanna’s garden to the sublime landscapes Sally encounters while hiking across Australia. Along the way, we also meet their beloved pet dogs and the people closest to them.
Recently, Joanna has become fascinated by “maximalist” interiors and how her images come to life within these vibrant spaces.
Meanwhile, Sally explores the tension between her creative drive to "make" and her ethical concerns about the accumulation of "stuff" in the world. Sally is also a finalist in the City of Unley Active Ageing Award, which recognises artists over the age of 60 and celebrates the City of Unley’s involvement with SALA and its commitment to promoting and supporting an active ageing approach.
By gently unravelling and re-weaving the diverse themes of their two practices, Joanna and Sally have created an exhibition that welcomes you in – inviting both curiosity and imagination.
Heart place is on view in the St Andrew's Wellbeing Centre, located at 337 South Terrace, Level 3, Adelaide. Public opening hours are limited, but you are welcome to contact the artists for private appointments.
