Welcoming New Voices to Our Board of Governors

November 19, 2025
As St Andrew’s Hospital stands on the eve of its 90th anniversary, we are pleased to welcome four new members to our Board of Governors - leaders whose expertise, insight, and commitment will help guide Australia’s largest independent private hospital and a national leader in robotic surgery into its next era.

Professor David Lloyd is Vice Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia and co Vice Chancellor of Adelaide University. He brings extensive experience in leading large, complex institutions through major transformation, along with deep expertise in research governance, national policy, and strategic planning. Prof Lloyd is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.

Jani Baker is a senior executive with significant experience across public health, aged care, and community services. Her strengths include strategy development, governance, stakeholder engagement, and improving equity in health outcomes. She is Director of Community at the City of Onkaparinga and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, with Board experience at Novita.

Wayne Coutts has more than 25 years of leadership experience in facilities and asset management across major South Australian organisations. He brings strong capability in infrastructure governance, risk and compliance, capital planning, and operational oversight. Wayne holds qualifications in business management, occupational health and safety, and project management, and is a Registered Property Manager and A Class Electrician.

Dr Mark Lewis is a colorectal and general surgeon with extensive clinical experience in both Australia and the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, and a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. He serves as a Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and provides general surgical and endoscopy services at St Andrew’s Hospital. Dr Lewis brings specialist clinical insight and a strong understanding of contemporary surgical practice to the Board of Governors.

With Gratitude
We also acknowledge the outstanding service of retiring Board of Governors members Susy Daw, Trevor Lambert, and Dr Jim Sweeney, whose guidance and dedication have made a lasting contribution to St Andrew’s Hospital.
