The Biomedical Engineering Department is responsible for managing a broad range of equipment used by St Andrew’s Hospital clinicians to deliver care, diagnose, and treat our patients.

In July 2012, the Hospital decided to bring the biomedical services in-house, and this year marks 10 years of the St Andrew’s Hospital Biomedical Team supporting St Andrew’s Hospital.

The department has many resources, test tools, manuals, spare parts, consumables, spare test equipment, and the asset of the experienced and dedicated team consisting of Maged Shenouda (Manager), Colin Hill, and Paul Wood.

They are a dedicated team bringing over 50 years of combined experience in the Biomedical Engineering Field.

One of the highlights for the team was the theatre expansion that occurred in 2018 with the construction of the Eastern Clinical Development (ECD) building. Maged was the lead engineer, and the team assisted in theatre layout and technology, integration, and ensuring the power distribution and medical gas systems in this area. Another highlight has been assisting in the Accreditation process for the Hospital.

This department and team are a great asset to our Hospital. Their expertise and dedication are second to none. The work they do every day in maintaining our clinical equipment is vital to ensuring the safety of our patients.

This month we thank them for their 10 years of service.
